ICCO is an inter church organization for development cooperation. ICCO gives global financial support and advice to local organizations and networks that work for better access to basic facilities, initiating sustainable economical development and enhancing peace and democracy. ICCO also brings together enterprising people in the Netherlands and in developing countries, as they work in 44 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

ICCO was founded December 31st, 1964. In that year, the Protestant churches decided to unite their development-aid activities. They filed an application with the Dutch government for co-funding of private projects in developing countries.

ICCO’s work is based on the Protestant tradition with an inclusive approach. ICCO are open to cooperation with people and organizations with other world views. Three values are central to their work: compassion, justice and stewardship.

Every human being deserves respect and neutrality of treatment, and at the same time has the responsibility to treat others in the same manner. The ICCO cooperative believes in the power of people, of cooperation and of sharing your ideas. People have a common interest in a better world for present and future generations.

Based on that common interest, the ICCO cooperative has developed its organization in such a way that people in developing countries are co-responsible for our policy and strategy. With this form of governance ICCO is able to react to questions of poverty and injustice more effectively.

ICCO’s goal is system change and works with five programs to alleviate poverty

  • Fair Economic Development
  • Food and Nutrition Security
  • Fair Climate
  • Democracy and Peace
  • Emergency Aid
